Petromin geoscientists on assignment with Shell in Kuala Lumpur

The Managing Director & CEO of Papua New Guinea’s national oil, gas and minerals company, Petromin PNG Holdings Limited, Mr Joshua Kalinoe today announced that three (3) national geoscientists from Petromin will commence a petroleum potential evaluation joint technical study with Shell (Malaysia) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The three Petromin staff engaged in this three months assignment are Mr Jack Sari (Petroleum Exploration Manager), Mr Sabbah Kloah (Senior Petroleum Geologist) and Mr Ken Vei (Geophysicist).
The Joint Technical Study is part of the Alliance Agreement signed between Shell and Petromin in August last year, to jointly pursue upstream opportunities in PNG.
Both Shell and Petromin have identified a number of areas within the known petroleum basins in Papua New Guinea and plan to conduct a systematic exploration project to evaluate and identify potential areas for investment.
Also, under this agreement, Shell agreed to provide exploration training and the use of industry standard technologies to assist the geoscientists in the assessment of the basins.
Shell is a leading global integrated energy company with strong experience and performance in oil and gas exploration and production. Petromin would significantly benefit from the joint technical study.
Mr Kalinoe said the knowledge gained from this exercise will enable Petromin to build up its exploration expertise and technological capability.
He added that the Board and management of Petromin greatly appreciate the commitment by Shell to assist in building expertise and providing training of relevant skill sets for Petromin’s growth strategy.
